Brothers And Frenemies Chapter 4

Sebastian was sitting in his room, staring at his math homework. Honestly, he didn’t understand why any human with a care for other humans would inflict such torture on humans. All the numbers looked the same to him. Other than counting cash what was the point of all this addition and subtraction and… He threw his book across the room in a fit of rage and decided that finishing off his ice cream that was on the verge of being soup was more important. Ultimately, he ended up drinking it once he realised scooping it was a futile effort.

And then he decided he needed a Coke to wash away the pain. When he finally felt up to the task of doing homework again, he picked up English. More stress. Spelling. He had to memorise words well enough for tomorrow's test. Annoyed. School was torture, and he was too young to be dealing with this shit.

“Having problems there?” Sebastian's older brother Steven was sitting at his desk also doing school work. He was the only one of the siblings in private school. Why? Because he demanded it. He was a special child. Not necessarily for all the good reasons. His personality aside, he could see his little brother was about to give up entirely.

“This school stuff is overrated.”

“You’re only seven. You have no idea just how evil school can be yet. I’ll grab some snacks, and we’ll sort this out.” Steven did just that and spent the next few minutes laughing and talking, helping his brother to help himself. It took a lot longer than it should have. He was fourteen, so this type of work was easy. But amongst laughter, it’s hard to easily spell words.

“So do you still hate education?”

“Are you always going to be here to help me do it?”

“Until I finally break away from this family—yes. I’ll be here.”

He’d never admit it, but he liked Steven. No one else in the family liked him. Hell, even Sebastian had his days when he completely and totally despised him. Still, he liked him in spite of it all for days like this—doing homework, watching mindless things on TV, eating junk food and being normal. He wished Steven was always like this. But tomorrow was a new day, and he knew it would be a while again before the nice brother surfaced. He didn’t care though. Any amount of that side of Steven was good enough for Sebastian.
