Broken: Chapter 1

Sandjai woke up. Sun shining into his room reminding him that this day was about to begin. That was the very last thing that he wanted to deal with. Summer was coming, it was his last year in high school, and he could think of a million things he’d rather be doing than getting up on a Saturday. And why was his alarm blaring dancehall at this ridiculous hour? It had to be his best friend screwing with his phone again. He knew one thing for sure. He wasn’t going to be getting up. Nothing was going to ruin his sleep today.
He quickly turned off the phone and then threw his head back onto his pillow. He sighed and just as he was about to go back to his happy place there was a tugging at his bed. Then his foot started to feel a little damp, then more damp. He tried to fake sleep as best he could, but ultimately he had to give in.

Brothers and Frenemies: Chapter 1

She watched the flames rise, her heart beating calmly as the smoke left the building. With each toxic breath, she became calmer. More resolved. More sure of herself. She didn’t think of what her actions may have caused and would cause. She didn’t think about much at all. She acted. There was no other choice. No other way to handle the situation.

After a wonderful New Year’s Day service, standing outside a burning building, covered in blood mostly not her own, was not where she thought she’d be. She held her son in her hands; he was just as quiet as she was. Just as calm. Just happy to be with his mother. Not aware really of anything that had happened that day, only that he was finally back in familiar territory.

Identity: Chapter 1

Another beautiful day in paradise.
It feels good to be Atorathian.

These were just some of the thoughts going through Cherann’s mind as she walked through the streets of Nera. She was a soldier of good ranking in the Keldonian army and hadn’t been on her home soil in a few months. She was looking forward to the solitude of the main city; maybe going through the garden maze at Leanor’s temple. Just taking in as much of the land in which she was raised as possible.

Revelations: Prologue

“Tell me why should I, Salinor, goddess of all, grant you this request? Who are you to deem yourself worthy of the favour of the gods?”

Atora, a boy of eighteen, looked up at Salinor and couldn’t believe his twist of fate. Had he travelled leagues across land and sea, had he braved the turning of winter for nothing? And now after trekking up the mountain of the gods—the pass of Gai’n—a feat that had killed many a man, he was faced with this. He was even stopped from using his last bit of strength to vault himself from the top of the mountain in an act of self-sacrifice. All this he had done to save his mother, and now he was being denied.

Virgil: Chapter 1

Hello.
My name is Virgil.

This, as you are no doubt very well aware, is my story. It’s not a tale for the faint of heart or the weak. It might shatter some of your preconceived notions of certain things—masculinity, love, trust and family. It won’t be pretty, and if you’re looking for a tale of romance, mystery, adventure, and other such typical escapes from the world in which you reside, then you should leave now. Don’t let another one of these words grace the eyes that you use to find those tales. My story is not one of them.

Dana prologue

“Not guilty.”

After only a few weeks in court, a young man was walking down the stairs of the court building a free man—well, sort of. His mother was a dean at a prestigious college, and her husband just happened to be a high profile career criminal. Put those two elements together, plus a publicly hushed case, and you had the makings of mass media coverage. With no real information to go on the press could only follow him, take pictures and make stuff up. All things they are extremely good at.
